Food for free.

We finally found the time to do some mushroom hunting. No mushrooms in the field.

So we went into the forest.
And we came back with dinner.
These are called girolles in French. I think they are called Chanterelles in English. A lovely tasty cream sauce. We will hunt again tomorrow.

 

Bet they will be delicious. We have some wild foods but mushrooms is not one of them.

I think I remember reading they only grow a certain time of year. Is that correct, or am I thinking of another type of mushroom?

 

Yes they do have a season. From mid may to october. Some mushrooms are found only in spring or autumn or even winter.
