One of Bunkie's great postings lead me to finding out about a more local public food park that is just in the first year of development. What a sight to warm a gardener's heart! Seven acres of public lands/park in the city for any and all to eat, browse and enjoy with a wide variety of fruits, nuts and berries. There are also p-patches for those that are interested for only $10 a year. Here are a couple of links: http://beaconfoodforest.weebly.com/ http://www.takepart.com/article/2012/02/21/its-not-fairytale-seattle-build-nations-first-food-forest
This kind of public food park is an excellent idea. A perfect way to spend time with your children helping out and then reaping the benifits when all the crops mature.
It's happening in other places too: ‘Edible Britain’ is the theme of Britain in Bloom 2013, http://www.rhs.org.uk/Gardening/Com...n-Bloom/News/RHS-Britain-in-Bloom-2013-launch. Are there other public gardens that are community gardens and go beyond the p-patch idea?
