Well after last week's constructive meeting with a chap from the food bank this week we have gathered enough for two crates.
If all goes according to schedule, someone will come by to pick them up in the morning.
The person who runs the Food Bank wants to have a chat about picking up on a regular basis next season.
This sounds good to us. Few things makes a person feel so good as to help another.

Here is what we harvested today:

    And notice this WHITE beet(root):

These two crates are filled with what we harvested from our lotty as well as whatt a couple of folks donated from their gardens. --What a pity the weather was so bad today, there might have been more folks at the complex.

I just stuck this one in because the new boquet is so pretty (to me anyway)...and so inexpensive.
Today was the last day of out vacation so we ate out and got some new flowers for the living room.
A little birdie told me that these Alstroemerias are Droopy's most favourite garden plant. ;)

Such a lovely bouquet, it's easy to tell how the Alstroemerias could be anyones favorite.

The food bank people are just gonna love those beets.

Well done Sjoerd! I'm so pleased that you have managed to donate your surplus to people who will make good use of it. :smt038

The Alstroemeria is pretty on the table, but I absolutely HATE them in the garden. Invasive, and near-impossible to get rid of once they're planted. :smt019

UPDATE-- The fellow from the Food Bank just came by and picked-up the crates full od veg. He was pleased and we talked about making this a usual thing. Apparently the recipients liked the fresh veg and were surprised.
I feel good about this food thing. There is a meeting on the 6th of Sept. and this will be one of the subjects for discussion. Until it gets approved, we will just gather and prepare the crates ourselves.
hee hee hee....I thought that might provoke a reaction, miss Droopie. :setc_014:

That is such a great way to use up your extra harvest and help keep others healthy at the same time.
    Beautiful bouquet too.

Food banks are great ideas and I'm so glad you found such a worthwhile outlet for your produce. So much better than not knowing what to do with it all. I hope the committee agrees to make up crates on a regular basis.

I'm sure all those folks will love the fresh produce! We kind of tend to take our gardens for granted. Some people don't have any space to garden or just don't know how :( What could be better than sharing something with someone that you grew yourself? Kind of makes you feel warm and fuzzy all over :D

A great way to use the surplus fruit and veg. Sure beats letting it go rotten or flinging on the compost. I love giving away my surplus to friends and family, I never have the sort of glut you have Sjoerd, so it must make you feel very proud.

The second thing, I wish I could get overrun with Alstromeria. I LOVE THEM and do you think I can get the blighters to grow! I garden for 2 different people who also love them, one they just about grow with a struggle, the other they just up and die everytime they buy them. Very frustrating!!

EJ, you're more than welcome to come up here and try to dig up some of those rope-like, thumb-thick, deep-down roots whenever you feel like it.

Boy EJ, it sure does. I hope the folks getting the veg lurve it as much as I di.
That feeling that stratsmom describes is absolutely correct.
Thanks all you folks for your positive reactions.
I can hardly wait for the meeting in Sept. I shall be very disappointed if they do not pick up this ball and run with it. If they for some reason do not do this, we will just do it ourselves and welcome others to contribute.

You know it sounds like a win-win scheme...but there are some old fuddy-duddies that sometimes have troubles with new ideas. These people do not want to hear about the website or newsletter either. So it's not a foregone conclusion that this idea will go through at the admin level.

Great idea Sjoerd! I wonder if my local food bank would be interested in some Zucchini? LOL
