One of my wonderful co-workers was in need of some large pots to bury a couple of plants in hopes of controlling them. She didn't want to spend the money for something new, so asked if I had any I'd be willing to trade for a plant. Duh! Like she had to ask?! So I gave her two big black plastic cheapo pots and in return she brought me some Papyrus since she knew I have the container ponds. She said it needed mostly shade. I almost passed on it, but when she said it would be okay in a large pot.... I had a  moment. The Camphor tree in the back yard provides shade practically year round. I have a couple of pretty good sized pots and actually grabbed one and started to fill it with soil... and another one of those  moments. This one, I called my WWSD (What Woulda Stewbie Do). So, I put the plastic pot back and grabbed and old canning pot that has just been waiting for it's own plant. cast iron plant ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden ) And because of the fire ants here, it needed to be raised off the ground. Guess what... another  Also just waiting to be used out the garden... an old fire grate from my grandpa's barn. I believe it is cast iron. old pot & grate ( photo / image / picture from cherylad's Garden )
Really nice looking plants, I love freebies like that. I have a few Cast Iron plants that last year were in shade but since we had a couple of in the way trees taken down last fall they are getting too much sun already this spring. They will find a new home in the north bed....as soon as I remember or am reminded of where all the Hosta are in that bed.
