Wall/Floor ( photo / image / picture from renten's Garden ) Hello, I'm new to this whole interior design scene and I was wondering if anyone could help me with my furniture choices. As you can see in the picture, my floor is wood and my walls are kind of an adobe type material I'm guessing. I'm having great difficulty to figure out which colors I should use for my furniture. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Furniture Color Try going with bright colors for your furniture. Red would look fantastic with those walls and sky blue would be stunning and provide a cool tone contrast with all the warm tones in the space. Remember that the lighting in the room also plays a huge role in how the colors are going to look. Natural lighting also changes throughout the day. If you can get a swatch of the materials you are interested in using, leave them in the room for at least 24 hours and looks at them throughout the day. I hope this helps!
Thank you! I was thinking of going for a red, but wasn't sure if it was going to be too bold. I was thinking more of a faded/pastel red, but a brighter/deeper red would look better? Also, I currently have a black bed frame, but I was thinking of getting a new one. What colors should my desk and bed frame be? (I'd like these two pieces of furniture in particular to match)
I would go with a bright red. It won't be too bold. If you go with a faded/pastel red, then it will be more likely to blend into the walls and look washed out. If you are really that concerned about it, then get some throw pillows to hide the large mass of red, but really, the bright red will look fantastic. A black bed frame would work in this space. Otherwise a chocolate brown. The trick is to pull the darkest grain color in your wood floor and use that as the frame color. It will provide a nice contrast and you can still use the brown without competing with the floor. As far as your desk and frame matching, that's a good idea. If you want to pull in another color into the space, then do it with the upholstery on your desk chair. If you wanted to bring in purple for example, then have the upholstery be something with both purple and red. This will help make the connection and bridge the colors nicely while looking intentional.
I would always have them compliment each other, and would never have red furniture with orangey walls...but hey, that's just me!!
Black sounds like a good color for my furniture. Another question is how would a birch wood color go with the room, meaning somewhat of a light wood color?
I would stay away from the birch wood. You have some really great warm colors with your walls and flooring, and the birch is cool. If you go with black furniture, then that will be a harsh contrast which will look out of place with the walls and flooring. My vote is still for a red or bright couch. The orange tones and red will really compliment each other and make it feel very warm. Black isn't the worst, but if you went with a more subdued neutral, you may like that better. (Charcoal or dark brown.)
hi I think you must go for the bright colour furniture. The brown colour will be perfect according to me.
Thank you to everyone. What color should my comforter for my bed and what not? Would it be too much to have a red one? Or would it be better with maybe red pillow cases and something like a red area rug?
That all depends, is the bed in the same room as the couch? If so, are you still leaning towards a black couch or something brighter? Word of caution... Red is an invigorating color, and energizes people. This may not work with your goal of getting rest... :-D
Well this is all for my bedroom. It will consist of a desk, bed and possibly some type of clothing drawer. I currently have a black tv mounted on the wall and mirror closet doors. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you.
Then I would accent your bed with some red pillows and the red area rug you were thinking about. The clothing drawer could be the same finish as your bed frame and then you would be all set! As long as everything flows it will look good.
Black and white is great. But what would really make them all stand out is if you pick your favorite one and have it done in the brightest colors possible then add the black and white in around it.
Yes, I think red furniture would be excellent. With yellow or orange accents. They tend to make the room a bit more welcoming with warm tones. Bright increases lighting efficiency as well.
