I have been thinking about writing this post for a while, and finally decided that it was time to post it. I don't know if anyone else is interested in contributing to the thread, but I think it might be fun. My plan is to post pictures throughout the season of my progress. I would love to see your progress as well. The following photo is a picture of my small stockpile of gardening supplies: The empty kitty litter boxes will most likely contain my tomatoes this coming season. Check Out my Kitty Litter Roma Tomatoes from 2007. I plan to change my strategy slightly for 2008. I am hoping for a lot more tomatoes. I also plan to have a nice little 10x10 foot veggy bed this comming year. It is going to be interesting to see how I overcome the compacted red clay in the back yard. Please join in and show everyone your progress throughout the comming season. I plan to start some seeds inside this January and February to see if I can get an early start. This should be fun.
What a great idea!! I'll contibute come spring as there is nothing I can do outdoors when the ground is so frozen. I will be planting seeds though at the beginning of the year so will try to remember to post some piccies.
I can't plant anything outdoors until very late may, early june. But i too will start my seeds probably feb or march. What i'm intrested in is the tomatoes,, we can't plant tomatoes outside at all here. an i like the kitty litter buckets idea. Can i ask what changes you are going to make to that planting from the post before. Since you will be a month or 2 ahead of me,, please keep posting what you find works an don't work. I planted tomatoes here an got 2 tomatoes out of 10 plants, what happened is they grew to like 7 ft tall, i kept pinching back, but they just went wild, an i didn't even fertilize at all. It has to be the 24 hour sunlight. If anyone can help with this,, i'm all open for it.
I wish my gardening tools were in neat arrangements but they are just as scattered as I am and my poor shovel never makes it to the garden shed.
I made the mistake last year of planting way to many tomato plants in one container. I think there were 12 in that litle kitty litter box. I guess I fely to bad about pulling most of them when they sprouted and only leaving one or two. The root ball go too compact and it only produces about a dozen tomatoes. I am going to plant a few, then as they start growing, I will pull all of them except the strongest one. The other thing I want to try this year is I want to keep it pruned like nan1234 posted. I want to see how the plant produces this year if I stick to these new guidelines.
