Well, Summer has flown right by and I have picked and packed and packed up and gone off to farmers markets all Summer. Four a week to be exact. That was a lot of work. So I didn't get many pictures, but here are a few of the ones I did take. ( photo / image / picture from carolyn's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from carolyn's Garden ) vegetables for the market ( photo / image / picture from carolyn's Garden ) watermelons ( photo / image / picture from carolyn's Garden ) tomatoes picked 9/5/14 ( photo / image / picture from carolyn's Garden )
OMG, that all looks gorgeous, such delicious looking produce. I would love to buy from your stall at the farmers market.
Me too!!I wish we could reach in, pick what we want, pay you and then taste all that wonderful produce.
Hiya C, Wow--wouldja lookit that! Delightful to see all the foto's of that healthy-looking veg. That last one makes one's eyeballs stand out on their stems. hahaha. I was looking at those punnets of toms that you sold. --5 per punnet. What sort of weight would that be per punnet? What spud types were you selling there in that first pic? They have a nice shape. Lovely harvest of melons there. I liked the middle pic with the courgettes, butternuts and orange paprika's. My paps are just beginning to colour. All-in-all...a great picture posting. I really appreciate it a lot to see what you have and how it goes in the markets there a bit. Thank you, busy girl.
Thanks, Toni, Eileen, Netty And Sjoerd. It is a lot of work, but I do enjoy it. S, The tomatoes weigh up between 2 and 3 pounds. There were a few greenhouse tomatoes in there, celebrity, ultra sonic, early doll, ultra pink... I am thinking, that was a picture from an earlier market so I am not positive for each except that there were the neighbors greenhouse toms in there, too. He has a house he grows in, but doesn't sell the produce. He sells the equipment, so I was getting lots of toms, eggplant and lettuce early in the season before our produce was ready. The potatoes are a mix of whatever I picked up at the supply house. red norlands, a Kennebec? potato, some fingerlings and Yukon Gold. I think the ones in the picture are kennebec. The picking of tomatoes was the 3rd or 4th one that size. I have been selling most of them so far. A friend came on Friday and helped me for hours getting the tomatoes picked. I was baking bread for the next days market at the same time so I was in and out in and out trying to bake and pick, too. I think we finally got done after about 4 hours. we were tired. It was the hottest day of the year, too. I am guessing it got to about 90, which for those farther South of us that would be cool, but for plants and people not having those temps all Summer it was a draining day. The tomatoes, peppers and eggplants were getting sunburned if the foliage cover was thin or gone.
Wonderful. I am glad you lived through the Summer. I know how busy you must be. Everything looks so good. Are they green tomatoes you are selling? I didn't realize others used green tomatoes. I don't use them all the time but I do make green salsa every few years.
Blimey, C! All that hard graft and in the heat as well. That was nice that your friend could come and help. The spuds looked good. The punnets of toms were perfect at 2-3 pounds. I'm glad that you could shift 'em. Thanks again for this posting.
Yep, Barb...made through so far. Green tomatoes are a staple for some people and many stands don't sell them green. I grow a variety called "fried green tomatoes" every year. They are great for frying up or making salsa or green tomato pie. They only develop a yellow skin, never turning soft or mushy. I have one celebrity tomato next to the driveway for customers who want green tomatoes and I am not here. they pick there own. I think next year I will put the fried green tomatoes there for the convenience of it. It wasn't intentional to have one large tomato there I was just filling in a row that there weren't enough zucchinis for. I should have thought ahead instead of using my feet all Summer long, huh? Then I wouldn't have had to go to the big tomato patch for the green ones when I was here. You are welcome, S.
All I can say is WOW! I can see why your tomatoes and other vegetables are selling so fast. They look delicious.
Yes all that produce sure does look yummy. Make me tired just thinking of all the work it took to harvest it all. Then you have to can or free it. Phew. I need a nap.
Not me, I just sell it. Maybe I will even go on vacation this Fall with the money I made from the markets... or not. Kevin wants to spend it on a building. he went shopping on craigs list twice this Summer. OY VEY! I now have a 2 bottom plow and a tractor. Then he went shopping in a catalog for a two row corn planter. I have one of those now, too. Really we do need a shed for all the equipment, but I think that will spend all the money and then some. sigh.
