A wildlife garden pond is a must to bring wildlife to your garden, in mine i have newts, frogs, and toads. you'll bring all kinds of instects all rouund it like dragonflies, damselflies, and then you can have wild flowers all round it too attract bees and butterflies.
I agree 100%. I have a large wildlife pond in my garden and it's amazing just how much wildlife it attracts with the correct planting.
I have a lot of birds that visit the pond for their daily bathes. A garter snake has been witnessed bathing also...I didn't know they swam so well or could hold their breath to hide under water until we were out of sight. Love seeing the wide variety of dragon flies (red is my favorite, and the small blue a second favorite), damsel flies, swimming beetles, etc. The garden would not be the same without water.
I have a very small pond that only holds a few goldfish. But I love to watch them...it's very calming.
I keep my waterfall pump going throughout the winter, and am able to overwinter my fish (and frogs)!!! The birds take winter birdbaths on the ledge of my falls...great activity throughout the year.
My small ponds and streams are my favorite part of my gardens too. I have birds, bugs, frogs, toads and sometimes a snake will visit. I never have any salamanders though, I wish I did.
