Last summer I put a gardenia plant into a hanging basket and it seemed to really like it. It put out probably 10 flower buds, but here we are in Feb and these buds never opened. I've tried feeding it, but still they are just sitting there. The temps have been mild, 60's to low 70's during the day, nights in the low 40's. What the heck am I doing wrong? moderator's note: added a more descriptive title to topic
What type of fertilizer are you using? Gardenias, like rhododendrons and Azaleas like acid fertilizer. The night time temperature is low It should be in the low 60's, lots of humidity but no misting(because of leaf spots). Indoors, the light should be bright, maintain humidity by placing moist pebbles under the plant. Outdoors, partial shade is recommended. Jerry
Thanks for your input Jerry. Perhaps I'll transplant it from the hanging pot into the ground. Then give it a shot of a more acid fertilizer. I just used Miraclegrow.
