Since we moved to Texas, I've missed having gardening friends. Lots of people visited our garden when we lived in town, but none were interested in gardening--just having the lawn service show up regularly! I was told "this must be a lot of work" while they completely missed the joy of planning, planting, and digging. I don't miss having gardening friends anymore. I've found them here on GardenStew! People who garden, like plants, know much more than I do, and are willing to share successes, failures, and marvelous photos of their gardens! So, thank you all, my new gardening friends.
Very well stated I am new here and you could not have said it better. I live in the rural area and not many get to see the beauty of one's hard work. It is a joy to be able to share it with others who enjoy the same things and to learn so much.
This is a great place for finding gardening friends. It's always fun to have the results of your hard work appreciated by other gardeners from all over the world. There have been a couple of people driving by who have stopped to tell me how much they like the garden, that feels good. When hubby has shown off photos of the gardens, the first thing people do is to commiserate with him about all the hard work he did to get the garden going. HUH???
I agree with each and every one of you! I'm always taking photos of my plants, etc. Some friends always ask why I'm doing it and what am I going to do with all those flower photos. I tell them that I belong to this neat online gardening club where you can show off your stuff, keep track of your plants, make gardening friends and learn tons of stuff.. all while having fun! I don't have computer access at home (yet) so have to use my computer at work. This is the only non-work-related site I visit throughout the day... everyday.
Marlingardener. it is really nice to have you here!! Yes it is really great to be here among friends!! :-D
KK NG, As we would say here in Texas, "Aw, shucks!" and thanks for the compliment. Aren't gardening friends some of the best friends to have?
Awww, marlingardener, that's so well put! I've got a few good gardening friends in RL, and a couple of them are as passionate about it as I am, but the rest is always concerned about all the hard work. Well, I also think about it and comment on it, but it's so worth it once I'm done. I've learned so much here on the Stew, not only about plants but also about day-to-day lives in other corners of the world.
I no longer think of the folks here at GardenStew as my friends. I consider them my extended family!! Life just wouldn't be the same without coming in here and being able to interact with you all.
Needless to say I'd be lost without the daily routine here at the Stew. I consider many members friends even though I've only ever met one in person (hi KK ).
You guys are all my special GARDEN FRIENDS! It is so fun to be involved with this site, and be on the same "wave length"! We don't need to explain why we love gardening so much, we all already know!
MG--We used to get an american TV show here quite a few years ago now called "Cheers", do you know it? ...and there was a passage of the words spoken or sung at the beginning --I have forgotton how it went exactly, but the gist was that "Cheers" was a place that someone coulkd feel at home and everyone knew your name....Garden Stew is sort of like that. I mean to say, it does feel good to come on here and feel right at home. It's that cozy, belonging sort of feeling. I like it....and like someone said, it;s a place where you can learn about plants and gardening or customs in different places and many other things or just have a friendly natter. I hope that you feel all those things. Welcome.
Cheers... I love that show! "Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You wanna be where you can see, Our troubles are all the same, You wanna be where everybody knows your name" Sound familiar Sjoerd?
Yes it sure does, Netty---and it's how I feel on here. Thanks for recording the words. That was a nice reminder.
