Gardening survey. Dear gardeners, Hello, we are a group of high school students trying to gather information about gardening. Our purpose is to use the responses to develop a more efficient indoor gardening system. In order to develop an indoor gardening system, we would need to gather responses on what problems people face when gardening. Our class requires us to design a planter that takes up less room and functions more efficiently than other planters. This would benefit households with limited space or time. A compact design and self watering feature or an app system would make the planter more user friendly. Modernizing the planter to grow multiple vegetables, flowers, and herbs would minimize the effort needed to grow the plants. Thank You. -Tyson Anderson
You may need some kind of tower with planting holes on the sides, so grow vertical for more efficient usage of space. An app could tell you when to water, but other than that I don’t see the benefits. Some kind of automatic watering system. Lights are useful to maximise yields indoors. Wicking systems are good for automated watering. The main problem a gardener has is that there are sometimes not enough hours in a day.
indoor gardening? do you mean seed starting and rising little seedlings or full-on indoor garden? if you need to grow mature crops indoors you're going to need to think hydroponics or aeroponics. Soil might work but that's definitely not ideal, having good living soil indoors is problematic. probably the biggest "problem" with any grow system soil, hydro, whatever, Is turning off and on the lights at the right times, and watering at the right times with the right amount of water, and doing regular feedings.
For my indoor gardening I use glass bulbs inserted into the different plants pots that slowly leak out water to keep my plants watered.
May I suggest a look at the gardening techniques practiced by botanists and scientists in the Epcot vertical garden exhibits in the Walt Disney World theme park. Several of their methodologies incorporate vertical architectures that minimize the usage of horizontal space. Not only do their exhibits and farms inspire creativity, they are in practice, utilized by many of the restaurants in the park. Jerry
Indoor gardening? For most and I mean 95% of the population that's a few house plants that just need watering and an occasional feed. In the commercial world, it's a science, where in vast greenhouses, growers produce plants and flowers to order on a weekly basis, using every possible technical advancement available. They are the people with the expertise and a possible source of information, if they don't consider it confidential.
