At last the rain has stopped though we have heavy early morning mists,..gardening chores were completed at every dry opportunity. replaced the walk in hot house cover,..now i can see inside from outside,.. . ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) Planted a rose bush last summer but it was a whitish colour and was lost against a white wall,...sooooo i had to paint the wall to enjoy this rose when it blooms. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) Spotted a sign which read,..Self Watering Flower Pots,..oh yea,..well i couldn't resist getting two of them,..i never came across them before,..and why didn't i think of doing something like this. There is a hole in the flower pot to allow surplus water to flow out,..inside there is a platform to prevent soil falling through to the water but allowing roots to get at the water,..very simple idea,..when i get time i will make some myself. wow... paint a wall to see a rose better? You are the master! Molly looks a little unhappy... were you late taking her for a walk?
Hi Cheryl,..ah yes poor Molly didn't get her morning walk and kept moaning and whining,.. seeing i started the painting i had to finish it and it was a chore painting a pebble dash wall,..all to make a rose look better,..oh it did cross my mind to move the rose bush but all my walls are a similar,..sort of white.
Painting your wall for your rose - I like your thinking Philip! I must say that those pots are interesting also. Let us know how they go!
Philip Nulty, Everything looks great to me, even Molly. She will suffer but shall be all the more happy when the walk finally happens. I just love to see your gardens. They are splendid.
Phillip after I bought my first self watering pot I wasn't shy about buying pots with no holes. I just drilled the holes in the side up a few inches and used coarse material at the base. Great for summer pots that need lots of watering. We are too rainy here in winter to use them for year round pots.
Things really are looking good there, Philip. Nice self-watering system. You shall be able to see that rose now with that green wall. I always think of green when I think of Ireland. I would like to see a pic when that rose is blooming. That hothouse is looking quite tidy and well-organised.
I don't know where spring has gone. We had three lovely days but now we're back to dull, cold and windy ones. I hope your weather is better than ours Philip. Your greenhouse looks well kited out and before you know it there'll be sprouts everywhere. Only a gardener would understand why you painted the wall instead of moving the rose. I like your way of thinking!! I hope Molly approved and didn't mind having her walk delayed.
I was AWOL for the past 12 days so only answering the comments tonight,.. my excuse is i gave up smoking,.. ,..sitting in front of a computer screen with cigarette lit was the usual,..now its sucking a mint as a substitute,.. 8) . Well folks Jewell was the only one who posted that she has those Self Watering Pots,..i presumed i was perhaps the only one who discovered of late that they existed,..isn't it such a simple idea and so useful seeing containers dry out so quickly in summer. Oh as for painting the wall green to enhance the rose bloom colour,.. as Cheryl and Eileen commented,..only a gardener would understand the logic there,..so true,..anyway the rose intended for that spot was incorrectly labeled,..it should be a yellow and red but it turned out like below. ( photo / image / picture from Philip Nulty's Garden ) The second rose below is "Ice Cream",..and it will also benefit when in bloom against the green background. Good for you Philip. Smoking is a terrible (not to mention unhealthy and stinky) habit..in case no one has thought enough of you to tell you that before now. I like you and appreciate all your posts and pictures on here...so, We need you to stay around a bit, ya know?! Keep up the fight! Your Ice Cream rose is a beauty! So is that bi color..whatever it is.
Hi Carolyn, i was off cigarettes for a few years then started again last summer,.. then one evening last month i ran out of cigarettes realized i had to go to a cash point to withdraw cash to buy cigarettes,..decided there and then that i wasn't going to give in and didn't smoke since,..now the house smells nice and fresh,.. .
I've run out of ways to say how beautiful your roses are. And congrats on quit smoking. I used to go through 2 packs a day but quit in 1985 when my dad died of lung cancer.... and it was getting expensive... nearly $1.00 a pack!
Cheryl...Good for you too. I can't fathom how anybody can afford to smoke now. I see how much a pack costs and have to wonder if they have a second job just to pay for it. Here there is called a sin tax in some of our counties...You get to pay an extra tax on your tobacco purchase towards funding the sports stadium... :-D Everybody got to vote on that. I was shocked at that idea.
