Gardening has become a hard process for me. I finally found out why my leg muscles have hurt for so many years and now the chiropractor is trying to keep me from back surgery . I guess my L5 disk in my lower back is 1/3 of what it should be for my age and the L4 is almost as bad. Not one person had checked my back all these years because I didn't have back pain just aching leg muscles...now I do with him working on me but hopefully by the end of 40-50 appointments I can go on with things a little longer. I try to be optimistic and do just small amounts at a time but this is my favorite thing to do....dig in the garden and even weeding.
    .
Has anyone seen a chiropractor and been relieved of their pain? Mine is no quick fix , I am just hoping he can help me. ;)

Hi Sherry...I feel your pain. I spent several years doing physical therapy, chiropractor and acupuncture. It is a process with no quick fix. :( I also have degeneration in L4&5 and stenosis which causes problems with my sciatic nerve. It is important to do any exercises & stretching they tell you. When I am doing weeding and planting I use a canvas stool or use a knee board so I don't bend the wrong way. Also, I take lots of breaks and then when I go in I do my stretching exercises, it may help to stretch before you go out. During this time of year I take my perscription anti-inflammatory...arthrotech. Hope this helps.

I too have sciatic pain and resulting numbness in my left leg and foot. I find that applying an ice pack to my lower back helps almost immediately. I went for an injection (epidural) on March 25th, it did not work for very long. My doc says that he can do another one that may be more effective directly on my nerve bundle. I'm hoping that one will take.
I'm glad that they knocked me out for the injection,
as I'm a chicken. I know that chiropractors help lots of folks, but their care is not covered by most insurances and the payments really add up. That being said, I would do almost anything to avoid back surgery however.
Hope you get to feeling better.

Wishing you all my best wishes Sherry. It's heart-wrenching to hear that you can't do as much gardening as you'd like to.

Thank you everyone...I do some gardening but it is at such a slower pace than I am used too..I just waited so long for this time of year. I do not like taking anything for the discomfort so I am using the ice packs. I will make it through just fine .
