In the living room where the wood burner is, the floor and the back wall are tiled with a light grey tile. Several of the tile are cracked under the stove and on the back wall. We bought the tile yesterday at Home Depot and the installers will be out on the 25th to start. Should only be a 2 day job. They were out last Friday to look at the job, mainly because of the stove. They will disconnect the chimney, move the stove and then put it back when they are done, and hook it back up. Then next month they will be back out to put down laminate flooring in the 2 bedrooms. Then we will be pretty much done for this year.

That is great Capt! We need to re-do our living room too, but I think that will be a winter job.

Sounds like a heavy stove Captain, will the new tiles be up to the task?

I think so Jerry. They are going to put 1/2 inch cement board under them. The ones that are there now are on 1/4 in. board and have done ok for 25 years.

Twenty five years is a good, long time to have tiles on a floor without any problems. Let's hope the latest ones last just as long. Are the new tiles heat resistant ones CK?

They are just regular ceramic tile about 3/8 ths inch thick. Plus there will be 1/2 inch cement board under them. If I were 25 yrs. younger, I would do the work myself. The tile that are currently there, I put in myself. Originally there was field stone in and it was about 2 inches thick and we didn't really care for it. But that was what the contractor put in when the house was built. The hardest part of the job is moving the stove. It weighs between 300 and 400 lbs. That's why I had to have the crew come out to take a look at it to see if they could / would do the work or not. I have taken a before pic and will take an after pic to post later.

Sounds like it will look good again Capt Kirk. I would like field stone or tile under and around my stove. Perhaps when I re do my kitchen, I will try that if I can.

CK, sounds like you are a veteran, so thank you to you also. :)
