Do you have any ghost stories, maybe from your family or friends? I bet some of you have some great ones! I will start out with one that I know of.

My father-in-law had been in bad health from heart disease and was in the hospital. They had put in a pacemaker, but was not helping as much as they had hoped. The 2nd night there, the nurse was checking him about 2 am and he said" Who is that standing at the foot of my bed?" The nurse looked and there was no one there. He then said "Oh it's my sister Edna." What he didn't know was that his sister had passed away the day before early in the morning. The family had not told him yet. He died later on that same morning about 4 am. Easter Sunday.

    Ghost story? Who can say?

Many years ago when my father was away from home working he had a strange experience. He was living in a hostel which his company had for their men. He went to bed and in the middle of the night was woken by a chair scraping along the floor. As there was no chair in the room he turned to see the outline of someone climbing onto the chair and putting a noose around their neck!! He was so shocked he couldn't react and lay frozen as the chair was kicked away and the 'person' swung free. Then they simply disappeared.

Needless to say he didn't get much more sleep and in the morning he found out that a young lad had hung himself in that very room almost a hundred years before.

We were at my cousins house playing cards one evening and the little ones were all sleeping. When my cousins three year old came down stair and asked "Mommy, whats wrong with grandma?" Before anyone could answer a knock came at the door and a police officer was standing there. He was there to inform them that grandma had just be killed by a hit and run driver.

Our house in upstate New York had resident ghosts--the retired farmer and his wife, who had built the home in 1870. We would find small things moved overnight, and once I walked into our downstairs powder room to find it was a library with books on the shelves and a distinguished man in a shirt with no collar standing with a book in his hands, looking at me. It only lasted a few seconds and then it was our powder room again. Our study and powder room had been his office when he occupied the house in the flesh. I kind of miss them . . . .

While my wife swears our house is haunted(footsteps in the house when I am not there and the house is locked up), the best I have heard is a creak or two. Perhaps the ghost is more quiet when I am home.

    A real ghost story.

A few miles north of us is a popular restaurant and it has a documented resident ghost. Featured on several national TV programs the story tells of Elizabeth Ford who married a sea captain much older than herself. Upon returning from a voyage of more than a year he was surprised to find that his wife had recently given birth to a baby girl. Enraged, the husband took the child from her, never to be seen again. The distraught Elizabeth confronted him, resulting in her death and a one way trip down an old well for the mother. Today the restaurant is haunted by the ghost of Elizabeth hunting for her missing child, rumored to be buried elsewhere on the property. A ghost that likes to roll a ball on the floor with children also moves plates and cups, she was once reported to smash a coffee cup against the wall. Her story is on the back page of the restaurant's menu for patrons to read.

I sometimes smell cigar smoke coming from the basement of our 1935 farmhouse. I make jokes about the resident ghost, who I have named 'Angus' after doing a little research on the house. Another time while laying in bed, I felt my german shepherd jump up on the bed, walk circles and then finally flop down. At that time she had been dead for a week. It was very comforting to me to know that she was still with me, even if in ghost form.
Also - the resort I work at has a Manor house built in the mid 1840's. One day while taping things off for the painter, I heard him come up behind me and I said "you have perfect timing, I just finished the last one". When I turned around no one was there!! The hair on my neck stood up and I went to look for the painter, who I found down in the staff room sitting and eating his lunch! I think there are several ghosts around the Inn, including the owners mother who used to tend to the gardens. I often get a quick whiff of her perfume then it is gone. I think she likes what I do in 'her' gardens.

I have a few experiences that I can't explain, may have posted them in previous years' similar posts. As a child we had an old Carnegie library that my Mom took me to often. Beautiful old building that has since been turned into a museum. There was a section in the library that always got cold and I thought someone was always following me, lights flickered, that kind of thing. It drove my mom nuts because I would hang on her coat tails in that area (I was 7-8 years old). As an adult, I learned of ghost stories that a prominent musician was a ghost there. Her name was also Julie, and she played piano. Creepy.

Other story happened driving in the rain in the middle of nowhere in central Nebraska near Hastings. Thought I hit something, but didn't see anything or anyone. Scared me at the time, but figured it was a deer but had no damage to the car. A few weeks later I heard the story on the local radio station of a boy who got hit long ago in a rainstorm on that stretch of road, and how many police reports had been filed by drivers who thought they'd hit something only to have nothing be found.

Even with those two experiences, I really don't know if I believe in ghosts or not.

My ghost story isn't scary... it's comforting and kinda funny. My ghosts? My Mom and Dad.
When we were tearing down my Dad's old workshop... on a beautiful clear calm day. All of a sudden you could see this big "dust devil" coming right for us. It was big enough to pick up tools like hammers and move them a few inches... and oh boy... the dirt it kicked up. My brothers and I looked at each other and said at the same time "Dang... guess Daddy didn't like us messing with his stuff!"
And my Mom... ohhh... she gets so mad at me sometimes when I'm going through the cabinets in HER kitchen. One particular time I was cleaning out a cabinet and had items on the kitchen table. And while I had my head buried in the cabinet looking for "treasures"... a bowl that was placed in the middle of the table hit the floor. There was no way it could have fallen off and there was no one else around that could have bumped the table. I said "Alright... you don't have to throw stuff around... I'll put it all back."
Every once in a while, she'll knock something else over or leave a cabinet door or drawer open. And when I go to get rid of unused/unsuable items in the house, or rearrange something... I always say... "Okay Momma... Don't get mad, but..."

I love ghost stories, I wish I had one of my own. Pianolady, I have heard of the boy hit on the road in a rainstorm near Hastings NE.

I have lots of them. I used to work downtown savannah, which is part of our attraction to tourists. I'll tell the ones I personally know though. As a teenager whenever I was alone sometimes in the house I'd hear the sound of a coin spinning on the kitchen counter. I'd get up to look and every time my line of vision would see into there it would stop. As soon as I sat down on the coin the sound would begin again. This would go on for hours sometimes. Some mornings I'd walk past my parents bedroom to hear the belts she hung on the door jingling as though the cat were playing with them, then walk into the living to find both parents and the cat all seated. I'd also hear the abrasive sound of someone raking the front porch when no one was out there, I heard that so long and often I didn't really think anything of it until later when I started putting these things together. I asked my mon finally and she was skeptical but she did admit that the people they bought the house from had a teenage son that hung himself in the house.

One of my brothers friends used to have an old historic house they eventually sold because of the hauntings. My brother and other friends would stay over in this guest room on poker nights after too much beer. Well this one room got a reputation, my brother is one that absolutely does not believe in this stuff and even laughs at those who do. Which to me makes this one of my favorites. So sometimes when you stayed in this room you'd wake up paralyzed, fully awake but with a heavy weight lying on your body. My brother told me he woke up, saw a large man standing at the edge of his bed and he realized he couldn't move. He laid there for over an hour terrified and trying to roll himself of the bed. He finally got free and slept on the couch for the rest of the night. Those people sold the home finally after many many unexplainable incidents occurring their young daughter.

I actually have more lol, but I think twos enough for now. I'm a science minded person, but here in savannah you just hear and see too much.

My little brother is still convinced to this day that the upstairs of our childhood home was/is haunted. I never gave it much thought, but your stories are so
real :) that it's making me reconsider! :smt039:smt039:smt039

I have lived in this house for almost 18 years. We have never had Cardinals here in all the years, but this year after my Mom passed away we started seeing Cardinals in our Lilac tree. I always heard that Cardinals represent a loved one from the other side. I also find a lot of dimes lately, and I always smile and say "thanks Mom"
Funny little things that give us comfort
