I have an assortment of antique glass door knobs to make a lamp with. I recently got a nice hefty peice of glass with a hole already in it to use for the base. I hope to get the lamp kit next month and put it together. I have a lamp shade the right size laid by already too. My question is, do I need to glue the knobs together while making the lamp, or will the tubing & socket and the bolt on the bottom [or is it called a 'nut' ?] be enough to keep it together ? If I need to glue them together, what kind of glue should I use ? I just wondered. TIA.
I'm anxious to see it too. About the glue... I seem to remember a couple of posts that mentioned what glue other's used when making glass totems. Maybe a search could help you with that?
I think this post will help you out: http://www.gardenstew.com/about2020.html Good luck and do let us see the end result won't you? :-D
I am assuming you are going to glue the knobs facing outward as you go up the rod ? Neat idea. Hardware store has a clear silicone glue for glass. Should work for you. Its the same thing that glass companies use for shelving and glass boxes.
The knobs will be stacked over the metal tubing, like one of those playskool toys, or rings on a finger. I will be getting my kit at the local hardware store, so they should be able to tell me what glue you mean. I will be taking the knobs with me to be sure the tubing fits through the existing holes. I think the holes are about 1/2" or slightly less. thank you Mart.
