Glenda is on her way. She left about 4 pm and was going to her friend's house in Fort Worth for the night. Oreo thought he was going to drive but she moved him to the passenger seat. She will leave from Fort Worth tomorrow. She's starting on Route 287 for the most of the way. She's going to Billings, Montana so has to cut across that corner of Wyoming. She is taking her computer and Joe will clean it and install it for her. She'll be back in June or July she said. That's just about in time to go again. She'll post in when she gets there. dooley
Wow, what a trip. I didn't realize she would be gone for that long, but it makes sense if you are going to drive that far you might as well stay as long as possible.
That's one heck of a long drive. I don't think I'd like to undertake a trip like that on my own. I'm glad she's taken her computer with her as I wouldn't want to lose touch with her until next summer.
Thanks so much Dooley. I hope she makes it there alright and can't wait for that first post from her once she's settled. I agree with you Eileen--I wouldn't want to wait that long either.
Hwy 287 takes her from Ft. Worth to Amarillo and this morning it is near freezing (33 degrees) with mist and light snow in portions of the Panhandle where she will be driving. But it will take her roughly 7 hours to drive from Ft. Worth to Amarillo so maybe any accumulated snow will have melted away by the time she gets there. Did she say how far she hopes to travel each day before stopping? If not Amarillo, then Denver will be her next chance, that's about 4 hours northwest of Amarillo. I am hoping that she plans on taking I-25 from Denver straight up thru Wyoming to Billings, much better highway than 287 which will take her too far west anyway. She will see some gorgeous countryside but being the driver she probably won't get a good chance to take it all it.
Wow, don't you all wish we could track her along the way? It will be good when we hear she's made it to her destination. I can see why she would stay that long -- the winter will be gone.
She did not say how far she planned on driving each day. It's about 1,400 miles total. She had her camera packed right in the top of her tote which was on the seat beside her. I wouldn't want to be making a trip into the mountains at this time of year but she's skirting the most of them, except around Denver. I think she will take the interstate from Denver to Billings. I know I would do that as those roads stand a better chance of being cleared if she runs into snow. She had supplies packed in case she runs into any bad weather and blankets and heavy clothing. It was about 80 degs when she left here. She said she would wait for the snow to melt before she comes home. About February I'll call her and tell her the snow is gone and I'm starting my garden. Should make her feel like coming home, right? dooley
Wow!! It is like driving from the southern most point to the northern most point and back and up again three quarter of the distance in Malaysia! Is she there yet, safe and warm?
KK, depending on the weather she runs into and the number of hours she drives each day she will probably get to Billings sometime Sunday. If she was to drive it straight thru it would take about 20 hours and that's without stopping for gas, food or walking Oreo. I saw photos of the snow in Amarillo yesterday that she might have had to contend with, I think they got an inch or two.
Haha... I don't know, Dooley...think we should count on it? Her new grandbaby will be pretty cute about that time!
I wish Glenda a safe and eventless journey, and I hope she'll be online soon, giving us updates on how her family is.
Thanks for the update, Dooley. I hope that the altitudes won't be too much for her little ticker. Say hello and give regards the next time you speak to her, please.
