Last night I spilled a package of frozen corn all over my kitchen floor. I didn't want to completely waste it so I brushed it up and threw it out in the yard for the birds. This morning I had quite a surprise when a big turkey jumped the fence and gobbled up the corn. Here in New Jersey, we are seeing more flocks of wild turkey all the time. Hmmmm....I don't know if I want this big boy jumping the fence and getting into my vegetable garden this spring.

Nice photos! The Turkey's here are too skittish and are gone at the first sound.

Netty, he jumped the fence and was gone after I took the photos. Daisybeans, he had two companions in the yard next door, but they didn't follow him. I wonder what my cat, who sits on the screened in porch each morning, thought of the visitor. He seemed a little abashed when I let him in.

By the way...how do you make a scare-turkey? It was fun to have him in my yard today...but in the spring...how destructive are they in the garden? I have a lot of trouble now with chipmunks tearing up my plants...I can't even imagine what a turkey might do.

Well that's one species of bird I'm glad doesn't pop into my garden here in Scotland for a feed!! I wonder what my little feathered friends would make of it if it did?

We have a flock of 32 (since mating season has begun and hunting season is over, probably more). They come through periodically but they always stay on the edge of the property where all the nuts & acorns are. Sometimes I see them once or twice a day and then I will not see them for months. Netty is right the first sound they hear...they are off & running or flying.

Maybe a few more windchimes would work...I love the sound they make and it would be a good excuse to have more...keeping turkeys off my seedlings.
