We are going to an open garden today at my friend Wanda's.She has an amazing garden with loads of daylilies & many, many true lilies. She does all the work herself & you would be hard pressed to find a weed! She used to visit our garden & take pictures & notes & now goes places & gives lectures & is a judge at shows. Now,I get ideas from her.She got me excited about adding the true lilies,Lilium. sNs
Wow, That is wonderful. So you sparked her interests in gardening and now she has become very educated to great extents? How nice that you could start her on such great journey and even becoming a judge. Always good to recruit....You never know where it will lead. How neat.
I hope you take a camera to your friends open day. I'd love to see her garden and all the lilies she grows. It sounds as though you gave her lots of inspiration when she saw your own garden. Isn't it lovely to see her making such a success of her own and of her life?
No,I wouldn't go so far as to say I sparked her interest. She had the spark for a long time previous. But she found my old established garden to be inspirational. She would go to many gardens noting what plants do good in our Iowa soil. She spent many hours on the Dave's Garden forum & hosted 2 big garden get together swaps. We met on that forum. She came to my garden & done a pictorial story.Neither of us belong to that forum anymore. But then Dave isn't there anymore either. I'm such a forgetful klutz I forgot my camera. sNs
SNS. When I saw her flower beds last year. Knew I needed to thin my beds out. And give away plants that was taking over. And tell people that got them needed room. Did she attend swaps at Morse ??
KK,Wanda didn't do swaps at Morse. She traded on Daves Garden. There are several trees that are sucking up a lot of moisture & also it is getting a bit shady for some plants.I see it as becoming a problem.Right across the fence to the west are several soft Maples that likely already have roots in her beds.I think the big tree in her yard is an ash & according to what I heard on the news today they are in trouble from ash borer. She only watered once in the drought last summer but I saw things that needed watering now. sNs
SNS, yes lot of ash bore. I planted tree for Amana many years ago. worked for them 1 summer. 2 other gals and I planted -thousand of them by south Amana. I know in Wanda garden area tornado hit. Lot of trees went down. We plan on going Sunday.
