The Persied meteor shower is tonight. Supposed to be from 2 am and 5 am. They say to expect 1-2 meteors per minute at it's peak. Since I usually wake up between 3:30 and 4 anyhow, I am going to try to get some pics of them. Will let you know how that works out.

    That sounds neat Capt.
Say...aren't you supposed to make a wish on those? You could get 1-2 wishes per minute LOL

My camera has a night setting using available natural light. Hols the shutter open for up to 3 seconds. Sure hope it works!

I don't find that very long, Capt'n...but on the other hand if the shutter stays open for much longer the stars will look like slightly curved drawn lines because of the earth's rotation.
My fingers are crossed for you tonight.

Nope, it didn't work. #1, didn't see any meteors, I think they were low on the hoizon to the east, behind the trees. #2 I took a couple of shots to see if the stars would turn out and only got a dark screen. That was with a 3 second open shutter.

Did you check them on your computer? Sometimes I think I've gotten nothing but once I get it on the computer it looks better. Not always what I wanted but sometimes better than I though while looking at it on the camera.

Sorry it didn't work out for you Capt. Maybe next time.

What a shame about those shots. Well the camera's new and you'll get another chance, I'm sure.
4 seconds is a bit slow after all I guess, but I don't know what kind of lens you have. If your camera is a small one I would have imagined that it's lens would let more light in.
Oh well, thanks for your efforts anyway.
