My birthday was a while back, but I finally got my present this week (it was mail ordered). I'm usually not a fan of tv stars' product lines, but I do like my Paula Deen stoneware bread pan. Ever since I had to start eating gluten free, making bread has become one of my favorite activities (store bought GF bread is terrible...and expensive). This pan puts a nice brown crust on all my breads, without burning them, and makes a larger loaf than my metal or glass pans. I also tried my old bread machine for GF bread, and it makes bricks! GF bread only needs one rise cycle, and my ancient bread machine only has settings with two rise cycles. I guess newer bread machines have GF settings, but I didn't feel like spending that kind of money when my kitchen aid does the job for me anyway. GF bread is more of a batter bread, I don't bother kneading at all. Just mix it up and pour it in the pan and let it rise & bake.
My stars, that pan is so beautiful I'd be afraid to use it! I'm glad you are enjoying baking your own gluten free bread. I love to bake bread, and am always happy to hear my passion is shared by others.
First off, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!! Sorry we all missed out on wishing it to you on time. But you have a very nice pan. I hope you get lots of use out of it. I have several stoneware pans from pampered chef and I love them, but I don't use them for bread they make the loaf way to wide for toasting, so I use my grandmas old, old bread pans. They are wonderful for meatloeaf, though...I have actually made a hamloaf, forgot to take it out of the oven and went away for the evening but when I got home it wasn't burned to a crisp, just baked beyond eating.
I bake a lot of bread when its cooler. I am going to revamp the recipe and try it as a batter bread with single rise this fall. I am very impatient. Beautiful bread pan.
That is a pretty thing! I would love to get the recipe for your GF bread. I am trying to go gluten-free and you are right, it is very expensive
