About 5pm yesterday got a phone call saying there had been an accident. My daughter, grandson and son in law were being taken to local hospital. Thank GOD everyone is ok. Lots of bumps and bruises. My daughter was in her car and Eric & Nicholas were in Eric's car setting in a right hand turn lane waiting for light to change. Eric said he saw the car coming in mirror not slowing down. He turned car away, but she hit him and threw them 25 ft.off the side of road. Then she plowed into my daughter and my daughters car hit the car in front of her. They had to cut her out of car. Both of their cars are totaled. All due to -You guessed it - TEXTING while driving. The woman responsible ended up with a broken wrist. The hospital sent my daughter home in a back and neck brace and strong pain killers. Told her she would feel like a semi hit her when she woke up today. Eric is bruised and sore. We have Nicholas with us and he's pretty sore and shaken up. As for me - is it ok to drink wine for breakfast.
Oh Donna! How awful & how very very scary. I am so glad that it was not worse and that your family is safe. Please give them a hug from all the folks here at the Stew!
I hate seeing drivers texting or on their 'phones in a car whilst driving. They just don't pay enough attention to the road and their surroundings. Don't they realise they are in charge of a lethal piece of heavy machinery?!! Accidents, like the one your family was involved in, happen way too often nowadays. I'm just so glad that nobody was seriously injured or killed. Fingers crossed there'll be no long term after effects from the crash and that they all make a full recovery - both mentally and physically. As for the woman who caused the collision is concerned she should be fined heavily and banned from driving until she resits her test - at the very least.
Donna, I'm so glad that your daughter and family are okay, and so sad that it happened to them. The texting driver's insurance company ought to pay up, then drop her policy. I do hope there is a Virginia law against texting while driving.
So glad the injuries will heal and the memories will eventually fade. Yep, wine is made from fruit and fruit juice for breakfast is recommended by nutritionists and doctors everywhere.
What is wrong with these people!!!!??? Technology is not more important than lives. Grrrrr - it is so frustrating to see people glued to their phones when they should be paying attention to the road. Hope your family is feeling better and does not have any lasting harm from this accident.
Texting while driving, how stupid do you have to be! I can't imagine your shock Donna. I'm so glad that no-one was seriously injured. Accept the biggest of hugs from me.
I do not text. And let cell phone ring. Seen guy eating a sub+ reading a map. Driving a semi-must have been steering with knees. Hope your family heals fast. And person texting gets Big fine
Thanks all. I really appreciate all your concern. Nicole is still in bed hurting like he--. Eric and Nicholas are still walking around stiff as a board. But they are on the mend.
Terrible and good news at the same time, Donna. I am sorry that you have to go through with this. I hope your family members heal rapidly. Hope you are doing alright, as this must have been a bit shocking for you. lil cuddle.
Oh my gosh!!! Thank goodness they weren't seriously hurt! I do believe that driver would do jail time for that here. We have very strict 'distracted driving' laws.
Good Night, Donna! how horrific. I thought you were going to tell us it was a scam story anf they wanted money to get them out of jail, blah, blah, blah... BUT this is awful. Sorry to hear this for them and I hope they all recover quickly.
// moderator's note: off-topic content removed I however am really, really, REALLY, happy that nobody got seriously hurt in your case. But realistically speaking, this isn't the first time, nor will it ever be the last time we will hear of such road accidents... It's always the one who didn't do anything wrong that ends up paying a heavy price.
Sorry to hear of this, but happy to hear that everyone will be okay. As far as the person that caused the accident... a broken wrist sounds like perfect punishment... maybe it'll keep them from texting!
Oh wow, Donna. I can't imagine what it must have felt like when you got that call. Thank God it didn't end worse than it did.
