    Hi folks,

I planted a Granny Smith apple tree a while ago. I was encouraged to think it would do OK as I noticed that the little fuzzy buds the appeared at the end of each branch (and at intervals down each on) were beginning to open.

Leaves have started to appear, but they are below the graft. I don't know anythng about growing trees, but I'm assuming that I do not want the leaves growing from there ...

Can anyone give me a steer on what I should be doing with this?

    Thanks :)

I remove all the leaves below the grafts on my fruit trees as they prevent growth on th scion getting the nourishment they need to sprout well. The root stalk probably won't be GS anyway so you're not doing the tree any harm.

Here's a website about growing apple trees that you might find useful.
