The last few years about the time my concord grapes ripen they start disappearing. I figure the aroma must be attracting critters. My short list of suspects would include deer and racoons, don't know if squirrels would mess with them. Any ideas on how to prevent this? Cheers, Jim
I put out fruit in the winter for the Mockingbirds, etc. and have stood at the livingroom window watching our local squirrel pest sitting in the bowl eat the grapes. The bowl is mounted on a 4 foot tall post and he has to make a jump of about 5 feet from the fence to reach it so he must really like grapes. Could be racoons too, but I'm only plagued by squirrels.
I confess, it is me. I love them. Birds and Raccoons, those little masked bandits LOVE grapes. I buy them for them all the time and actually had one that would stand up and put his little hands out to take them from me. (they love yofurt too!) Possums love them as well and tho I have never seen them climb for them like raccoons will, they certainly could do so.
