I've got about a 150 sq ft area between my house and garage that gets very little sun. It's always supported some type of smattering of grass and little broad leaf things that pop up and fill in during the summer. This past year I've really worked the topsoil over in that area and just about all the life forms have been turned under. I'd like to get it greened up again but I figure I had better ask some professionals about what kind of grass seed and possibly broad leaf plant seeds I should start out with, considering the low light considerations. What kind of grass might grow well in this little patch of land? I'm in Lexington, Ky, btw. Thanks!
Hi there, don't know much about growing grass in shade, personally i wouldn't grow it at all, but there's a lot of videos on YouTube, here's one of them.
Yes Stepping stones with low light mondo grass. Dwarf type is a minimum. Something else to the outside edges is good.
Dirt very nice add mondo grass the black and green it’s one of the toughest plants in my garden. And it has good ground manners it doesn’t spread . Easiest care …great idea.
It's great that you're looking to green up that area between your house and garage! In low-light conditions, you might want to consider fine fescue grasses. They are known for their shade tolerance and can thrive in areas with limited sunlight. In your case, Kentucky Bluegrass and Fine Fescue mix could work well. For more specific guidance, it's a good idea to consult with a local nursery or landscaping professional in Lexington. They can provide recommendations tailored to your region's climate and conditions. Best of luck with your project.
