Reminds me of something that ought to be a hood ornament for a car in the 30's or 40's

I was cutting back and pulling out dead Coreopsis plants the other day and found this sitting on the ground. I couldn't tell if I had injured it but it didn't move very much. This was the best shot I could get with the sun shinning on the lime green creature.

I have been looking at grasshoppers but I also found a photo of a Katydid and a green cricket that look similar but nothing exact. :headscratch:

I agree, grasshopper family. They will devour any type of plant in their path, just ask my Angel Trumpets. They are voracious eaters, especially in the spring when they are just hatching out.

Not sure that this is any of the grasshoppers,or a Katydid or cricket as I don't see any antenna, could be a leaf hopper.

Okay, thanks to all the suggestions I have it ID'd
    Sword-bearing Conehead Katydid

They, grasshoppers and crickets are in the same Order-Orthoptera, but crickets and Katydids are a different SubOrder-Ensifera, then the Cricket and Katydid separate at the Super Family and go on down the family tree from there. ;)
