    Hello,

I am new to the forums and have relatively little gardening experience and am here to learn as much as I can!

    Background:
I have done some of my own research previously and am really interested in 100% organic gardening without any bottled nutrients but I really don't know what is required for different types of plants.

I currently have humus (earthworm castings), compost, sphagnum peat moss, and rice hulls.

    Goal:
Be able to grow some .5-3 gal potted plants of various species. Possibly inside or maybe grown on the back porch, I live in an apartment :(

I am going to need to find some plants that can live in those conditions.

I would like to grow some plants such as mint, various herbs. Possibly some shrubs or flowers like hibiscus or roses. Maybe even fruits and veggies if that's a possibility.

I previously planned to add quite a few amendments to this, but finances have run low and would like to just use what I already have.

Is there anything specific you'd recommend I add? Anything vital I'm missing?

Thanks any help is appreciated! Can't wait to meet yall

    Happy Gardening!

Hi Matt and welcome from SE Texas. There's LOTS of very knowledgeable and friendly folks here. From patio gardeners to folks with full-fledged farms. From flowers to fruit and veggies.
They'll be here soon to welcome you.
In the meantime, I'd suggest checking out the various forums and post your plans and questions in the specific forums. There's one for veggies... another for fruit... herbs, flowers, etc.
I guarantee you'll get lots of support. :stew2:

Matt welcome from Va. First you need to learn what conditions each plant needs to survive. It can vary a lot. So researching each plant before you get started can and will save you disappointment and money. Help is on it's way right here on the stew.

Hi Matt and welcome from a Stewbie in Wisconsin. Like the others have said this is the place for all your gardening questions. Sounds like you have a good start with your soil. PBS had a great special on container gardening. I think I will have to give that some serious though. Glad you found The Stew. :stew1:
