I found this site while trying to identify several plants in our condo gardens. We have several gardens around the property that are maintained by a group of us. The person who took care of the two main gardens resigned. Fortunately she had given me a spreadsheet from earlier this year with what she had planted. Unfortunately I wasn't familiar with many of these plants even though I am an experienced gardener and was one of the founders of our gardening committee. Turns out the reason I wasn't familiar with many of these plants is that they are normally zone 5 or warmer! So next year these plants will become compost and will be replaced with plants more appropriate for our area.

This looks like a wonderful site with lots of information and helpful people.

Hi there Karen and a warm welcome to GardenStew from West Lothian in Scotland.

Before you compost those zone 5 plants next year why don't you see if anyone here will swap you for something more suitable to your area? That way two people benifit from having new plants and it will only cost you both pastage and packing. :-D

    Thanks Eileen,
That is a great idea but the plants are zones 5 through 9 and really don't look that great with our overnight temps already down into the low 40s and high 30s. We are coming off a near drought situation with not enough water from the person who was supposed to be caring for them. A couple are listed as poisonous or invasive.

I am tyring to get seeds from a few so that they can be grown as annuals if I am lucky.

There are also condo politics to be considered as the former gardener is also on the Board of Directors who allocate the money for the gardens. She has already expressed concern that "her gardens" will be uprooted for no reason. It will be better, in the long run, for me to say that she bought the wrong plants and that they didn't survive. This has happened to her several times over the last 3 years that she was "in charge". The unedited version of this whole situation could read like a soap opera if I really wanted to get into it.
