I go once a week to our small town grocery. I enjoy grocery shopping since I know most of the clerks at the store and we exchange news and views. If another chain in the somewhat nearby city has bargains, I'll go there, but only if we have other places we need to shop in the vicinity. How often do you shop, and do you go to several groceries or just one?
I only shop at two different grocers. One is about 10 mile away and is more to pick up forgotten items. The other is a big chain store in Springfield where we get most of our groceries and we get all our meds through their pharmacy. We only shop once a week but if we are in town always have to stop in and get something. Everyone at both stores know us by name and are very helpful. Since we both have mobility problems they are happy to help us out.
You know you go to the grocery store way too often when the cashiers all look up when the door opens, they look in that direction as you come in and holler....Well there you are!! We really do not go daily but maybe two times a week, the grocery list is never as complete as we think it is so by the time we get home one of us has remembered something we forgot. The lady at the office counter knows us by name and so do the pharmacy people...and most of the others who work in different departments. Usually only Kroger but sometimes one of the other stores has an item we can not find there.
We don't go grocery shopping on a regular basis. Since we go out every day so we don't sit home all the time we stop when we need something. We eat out at least once a day. Sometimes breakfast, sometimes lunch. Never supper, we like to be home and inside before dark. Where we eat breakfast they all know our names. I've made shopping bags for all of the employees. Same as for lunch but a different place. We ride the buses a lot and have friends we talk with. All the bus driver's know us by name, too. dooley
to say I go grocery shopping is a stretch. I pick up this and that as I need it. I hate shopping. we live close enough to stores I don't worry too much about being out of anything.
I go once a week, to my local Kroger, on Sunday, where I get all my basic stuff. And same deal, the long time employees know me there, though of course there's turnover in those places, so there are always new faces too. I tend to get in whatever checkout line my favorite checkers are I go to Sprouts every so often too, to pick up the organic/health products I keep on hand. Honestly I'd like to shop there for my weekly stuff, but the prices are just not in my budget!
Every 4 to 5 months we go to one of the big membership stores and stock up. The rest of the time we try to support our little town's store. So many people go to the 'big' town 60 miles away, not only to buy food but to eat out, go to the movie etc. that many of our stores have closed and now we HAVE to go elsewhere to buy most things.
2ofus, I agree that many small town stores have been superceded by big box and discount stores. I love my smaller but friendlier grocery store, and shop our local feed store and hardware store. We do go to the small city 20 miles away to eat out if we are shopping for plants, lumber, and wine. I wish our small town had a good wine store, a couple of good restaurants, a plant nursery, and a lumber yard with straight 2X4's!
I swear my husband goes food shopping daily! He took over the kitchen when he retired (yes he did rearrange my spices), developed opinions about the cabinet organization, and began watching cooking shows. I don't mind. It was an adjustment, I admit, but he really has become an excellent cook. Better than me. We do a big box store run maybe once a month, then he or I pick up stuff for dinner every day or other day. He likes to see "what looks good", then plans the meal around that. I am glad to hear so many of you are known in the stores where you shop. I wish I could say the same but there are no stores in our town....we must drive to others towns to shop. I am known at the community garden though!! I "shop" there daily during the growing season!
I do my grocery shopping once a week, usually at the same store. If there is a good sale at the other local store I stop there. We do a trip to Costco about once every 6 weeks.
Ian does most of our shopping and he goes whenever we have a list long enough to warrant the trip. We do a 'big' shop every few weeks though.
I try to go just once a week but if we are passing the store when we are going to see my husbands parents we will stop and pick up something we forgot....usually just the Piggly Wiggly in town.
I do my big shop once a week, hate grocery shopping. In the summer and autumn I have pretty much all the fruit and veg I need from the allotment, other times I use the local farm shops.
I primarily shop in two stores. While I do shop (make an intentional trip) and buy a cart full I often am swinging by almost daily to pick up the odd item. Must say though I'm only shopping for me not a houseful so swinging by a store to buy fresh stuff on almost a daily basis is what I need to do as I won't go through a huge amount of fresh groceries before they spoil.
