I'm growing these for the first time ever this year. A few have ripened early and they taste mildly sweet and tart. If you have grown these before, how are they preserved, and other that a pie recipie, how are they used?

I tried them last year but mine didn`t get big enough to use for anything, And the harvest was rather sporadic,, a few here and there so I am no help. What I read was that they also make great jam so you might try that. Mine tasted a bit like an apple did yours ? Assuming that cape gooseberries (ground cherries) are what you are talking about.

After using google, that is exactly what I'm growing. The missus thought they tasted like filburts, I thought they were strawberryish, and one of my gardening friends said they tended toward sour cherry. :?:

I started 4 plants from seed and put out three. Picked up 20 or so off the ground, and have 100 or more ready to fall. We have an Amish recipie for a pie, and I think Mrs. FBG could adapt her Raspberry jam recipie to these fruit.

Well for any jam I make I just add a bit of liquid and sugar and cook till thick as I like !! Almost any recipe would work I guess !! You have had better luck than I did !! Mine were small, about the size of a marble !! Not worth growing to me !!
