It's a Chinese ground orchid, Bletilla striata They stay in the ground outside all Winter here. We have some in the front garden. They come back every year but do not bloom.

These in the picture are the ones we have in the greenhouse. Someone "special" sent them to me.

Me, too. But I figure if it is a hardy orchid maybe I would have a better chance at keeping it alive.
I made my orchid "tree" last year and over the Summer it didn't survive. :( I just don't go in that greenhouse everyday and check on it. It is usually empty.

Barb, I found these darling little orchids at Home Depot and thought I had to have them. So I bought them and decided to put them on a piece of wood where I thought they would eventually adhere and would make a lovely house plant...

I wasn't a very good keeper. I forgot to keep them misted and they eventually succumbed to my neglect. :(

Unfortunately carolyn, You talking their pot away was going to warrant you giving them even more attention. Even though they really do grow on trees, in the wild, your Dendrobium and Phalaenopsis needed to live in a humid environment or it needed your tender care.

Sorry they are gone. They were nice.

What you had is not the same as Chinese
Ground Orchid. Mine are Winter hardy. With the exception of this last Winter, they should live fine in our gardens. They also require normal moisture.

I knew they were different and needed different care. I just neglected mine to death in the busyness of Summer and farmers markets.
