We planted the native blue passion vine last year and now we are awash in these beautiful butterflies and their caterpillars. You can see these beauties in every phase right now. This butterfly is freshly emerged with the chrysalis beside her. :-D :-D :-D
Your yard is going to be all aflutter in a few days. Great photos, thanks Bethie. Several years ago before I was really into gardening, I planted a Passonflower Vine out back only to find it almost stripped of leaves about mid-summer and covered with caterpillars. I had no idea then that they would be butterflies soon. I didn't plant anything again for a few years, didn't want to loose more plants to the 'durn caterpillars' out there.
Fantastic shots Bethie!! Don't you just love it when your garden is filled with these beautiful insects? :-D
They sure love that Passion Vine Bethie! They are very lucky that you share your plants with them...many people would rid of them. You are rubbing off on me. I shared a few plants with caterpillars this year too! Great picture of that "fresh" butterfly.
I have a wonderful Passion Flower that has took over my cedar tree.I found so many cats on them one day and the next took my camera and all were gone but lots of birds.I wonder did the birds get them as all were gone.
