Here are some photos from my garden on Halloween. I knew we were getting a cold spell soon, so wanted to capture the final days of blooms. These zinnias were planted midsummer by either the birds or the wind. My cut & come again zinnias had started to go to seed a few feet away. I was surprised to see them growing here, but they ended up a a great spot. It's always nice when your garden plants itself. Zinnias and the butterfly bush in October ( photo / image / picture from Jersey's Garden ) I love planting flowers & herbs throughout the veggie garden. These nasturtiums bloomed all summer draping nicely over the raised bed. Nasturtiums and Parsley in the veggie garden ( photo / image / picture from Jersey's Garden ) I grew borage from seed this year, looking for something colorful in the herb garden. It has done really well even as I ignored it later in the season. Borage going to seed ( photo / image / picture from Jersey's Garden ) I found 2 watermelons growing about 2 weeks ago. I couldn't imagine why my fence was falling over. Until I checked behind & found this little guy + one more were growing on the backside of my fence. The first was delicious, I have yet to pick this one, wondering if it will still be good. If not, the chickens can have a treat. A lone watermelon left neglected behind the fence ( photo / image / picture from Jersey's Garden ) I've nicknamed these little guy "driveway petunias". I transplanted them from my mom's driveway where they were growing wild. I'm hoping they come back next year as they do in her yard. They are finally giving up for the year, so I am enjoying these last few blooms. Single Rambling Rose ( photo / image / picture from Jersey's Garden ) Hope everyone had a happy Halloween!
Everything in your photographs looks so good to this Scot. All my plants have stopped blooming and the fruit and veggies are all picked. It's so nice to know that you still have so much going on where you are. :-D
Thanks for capturing some of your garden before the cold spell Jersey. That way we know what wonderful sights to behold when it recovers after the cold season is over Let us know if the watermelon was good.
It's so nice to see such pretty flowers this time of year. Mine are all sleeping now so your flowers are 'eye candy' to me.
Thanks all. It's in the 40s now, but we may have a couple weeks left before the freezing temps set in. Although I grew up in NJ, I spent about 15 years in Colorado, zone 5. I've been back here in zone 7 now for 3 years & am still surprised to see how different the growing season is. Back in CO, we would have already had at least one big snowfall that would have wiped everything out. Next year I may try planting a second wave of zinnias myself & see how they fare later in the season.
