We usually turn off the lights and watch a couple of favorite 'witchy' movies (Kiki's Delivery Service and Practical Magic). With the front yard a total garden, there is no way I want trick or treaters traipsing through it in the dark
Youngest daughter goes to a party with friends, when she gets home we have gingerbread and hot cider. Before locking up for the night I put out a little of the gingerbread and cider for any passing spirits who might need some refreshment.

I have a growing collection of witches that I bring out the first of October. My favorite decoration is the one I made several years ago...the poem on the sides is a song I learned in the 1st grade and so far I have not found anyone else who remembers it...but then I am old ;)

Great decoration Toni. And I don't think I've heard of that song (and I'm old too!) :D
I like Halloween, basically because I like FALL and my favorite color is orange. So I like to put out some decorations.
Halloween's never been a big deal to me except when I was a kid. Who doesn't like big bags of candy?
But as an adult, I've lived in small rural communities and never had a ton of trick or treaters like they did in the cities. But I do buy a bag or two of our favorite candy just in case someone stops by.

I like cute Halloween stuff. Not the scary or bloody or creepy...

Thanks for the link Donm. Wonder where that gal went to school, what if one of the kids in my class who also learned that song went on to be a teacher who taught the song to that gal when she was in the 3rd grade. Anyway, that is the first referrence I have seen on the internet to the song but then I haven't dug into it very deep.

I have lived in this house almost 25 years and had trick or treaters one time. I had no candy, so I gave them money. I figured they would be back every year after that. And my grandson informed me last weekend that he was coming here for halloween and I should think about buying some candy. :sete_079:

When we lived in town we had trick-or-treater children, but out here in the country we don't get any. I compensate by baking a bunch of "ghost cookies" which are gingerbread cookies shaped like ghosts with white icing and licorice bit eyes and big "O" mouths. I distribute them to the neighbors up and down the road while dressed in my Scream costume.
I haven't been shot at yet.
