Here are some pictures of the quilt we bought yesterday when we were exploring the area. The lady said it's called "Old Woman's Handkerchief Quilt." She showed me how to fold the handkerchief to make the butterfly. dr says it looks more like a moth to him. We took several poses to show colors and sizes. The smaller pictures look darker and I think it's because they are closer. She said it would fit a queen or king size bed but wouldn't hand down on the larger size. dooley
That one is very pretty. Several years ago I started collecting handkerchiefs to make one but just never got around to it.
That's a nice-looking quilt, Dooley. I don't think that I've ever seen that pattern before. What a novel idea to fold hankies like that and then quilt them.
What a beauty Dooley. You were obviously meant to have it. :-D Much better than just a pile of handkerchiefs any day!!
I haven't seen that pattern before...it sure is a beauty. And to think of all the hours or work she put into it. Wish it was in my collection of quilts.
I can understand why you had to bring that one home with you, it's lovely. Where are you going to put it?
Such a pretty quilt. I am a very slow quilter but I really enjoy it. Do you think it is possible to explain how to fold the hankerchiefs so I could give it a try?
The lady cuts each handkerchief into two triangles. Cut from one corner across to the opposite one. Then, you take one side and fold it a bit under the center to make one wing and tack it down. Then take the other side and fold it a bit under the center and tack it down. You have the center for the body and two wings on the sides. Then she stitches it to the square and adds the little head and embroiders lines for the antenna and eyes and along the body. I guess she added the buttons for color or just decoration. I hope you can follow these instructions. Let me know if I can make it a little clearer. dooley
