My oldest brother gave me a squirrel proof bird feeder this morning. Their neighbor it Florida had it. When he passed away, his wife gave it to them. They don't feed birds so he gave it to me. I hung it up and figured it would take a day or two for them to find it. When I got back in the house, I looked out and they were already on it. Right now the squirrels are so busy with all the nuts, they won't even go after the bird seed.

Didn't that make you smile to see they had found the feeder so quickly!?

People in Florida don't have any idea how fierce and resourceful Midwest squirrels are!

Do tell when the squirrels have managed to crack the squirrel proof bird feeder code, won't you? Enjoy your new feeder. :D

I had a squirrel try it out about 30 minutes after I put it up. No luck for him! The feeder is all steel and when the squirrel gets on the perch, the perch moves down from his weight and a steel cover moves down over the seed tray. This guy promptly got dumped on the ground! :)

Oh dear I must have read your first message the wrong way. Glad to hear the feeder works and keeps the squirrels from eating all the birds food.

Can you post a picture of it? What is the name of it?
I'd love to find one that works for my father-in-law.
Those darn squirrels have made him crazy :D

Try www.seedcake.com search for squirrel proof feeders. The one on the upper right is similar to mine and works on the same principal. Several places had this one but this is the cheapest I saw. Mine is made to mount straight to a tree or wooden post. I couldn't find a name or manufacturer on it anywhere.

Eileen - Don't feel bad, I too thought the tree rats, aka squirrels, managed to get into the feeder.
