Easter Peeps turn 60 years old. They first came out for Easter of 1953. I wonder what kind of condition those original Peeps would be in 60 years later?
I had to think "what peeps?" it took me a second since I don't buy that kind. Does anybody actually eat those? I tried once and was soooo disappointed. They were so colorful and cute.
I imagine the 60 year old peeps look like the ones just out of the box--like candy corn, they don't age, they don't deteriorate. I'm with you Carolyn--peeps are inedible!
Peeps, like Barney the purple dinosaur, are made for 3-6 year olds and some things are best left in your childhood, like one definition of Thomas Wolfe's book title You Can't Go Home Again - attempts to relive youthful memories will always fail.
You are so right Toni, I think I was about 8 or 10 when I got some in an easter basket...they ranked right up there with jelly bird eggs....still do as a matter of fact.
I think I might have been saved from experiencing peeps. I was just beyond the basket full of candy by the time they came out. At least I don't remember eating one......or maybe I did and was too traumatized by the event, blocking the experience from my mind. I was at an presentation event......hmmmmmm...peeps....found it!! The basket was not intended to be the focal point of the picture. People brought in snacks. One person brought in an Easter basket, we all thought it was appropriate for the coming season. There were yellow chicks amongst the candy. No one ate them but it was a cute display and brightened the table. Peeps? Are these like twinkies, they are preserved forever?
