Tell the truth, folks— did you eat too much? We were visiting family over in North America one Thanksgiving. There were loads of adults and just my cousin and me. You know how it is, with all the adults yukking it up, the kids fall a bit under the radar. My cuz and I ate little bits of this and that all day and night long. Then there was the large meal, of course. I ate so much— you know…”when in Rome”, and all that. By the end of the evening it wasn’t just the turkey that was stuffed. No, I looked like a pregnant earthworm, or a snake that had just swallowed its prey. I could not find comfort. I walked and paced. I sat, I lay on a settee, I laid on the rug in front of the fire. Nothing helped. Finally I kneeled in front of a chair with my arms and head in the seat. My cousin could not contain her laughter and teasing, for she had had the sense to stop eating. It was that moment when I realised that most women are about 110% smarter than most men.
Happy Thanksgiving! In Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in October, but we seem to have the same type of meal. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, seasonal veg usually carrots or squash, some type of green salad etc, and pumpkin pie. And we definitely eat until stuffed Sjoerd, then talk about how thankful we are to be able to do so haha Then turkey leftovers for at least a few days, but not eating until stuffed again. Then we feast again at Christmas
