Wow! Everything looks so good! What are the long beans in the second photo? I love the way you braided your red onions ... I must learn to do that!
Thanks Netty, they are yard long beans. I just inserted titles in the pictures; I am not very good at uploading and re-sizing pictures aand find it very time consuming on my part.
You have produced some lovely fruit and vegetables GF. They all look to be so fresh and full of flavour. :-D
Looks like you have been busy GF! It all looks great, are you canning or freezing, or just making your neighbors really happy?
What a grand posting this is. You have a little bit of everything going on there, don't you. The pics were good to see for what they were, but also a good demonstration of what you have achieved and some were in there to give perspective. I quite liked the aerial shot of your perfect-looking garden area. All very cool indeed. The yard long beans look like they did very well for you. What kind of spuds were those? The toms all produced well, and there were some doozies I see. All in all--you have a lot to be proud of, don't you. Well done, GF!
What a beautiful and plentiful harvest. I'm curious about the round bottle gourd, what do you do with it? I heard that the juice is toxic and is only safe for human consumption if cooked. Is it true?
Looks like you had a very successful garden with a nice variety of things. Love the aerial view of your garden, it looks great!
Thank you everyone for your kind words and appreciation. Eileen- you are right flavor is unbeatable in homegrown veggies. Toni- marinara kit was kinda cute.. Cuatro- I shared with family and friends till the point they got bored of it! My old freezer 7.5 cu. ft. got full so we bought a new 14.1 cu. ft. chest freezer which also is 3/4 full and we are still picking cucumbers, beans and tomatoes. Sjored- All the beans did exceptionally well this year because of the mild Summer we had here. Potato seeds were Russet bought for $1.99 form Lowes hardware garden center. I recall, this harvest is from 3 seed potatoes each cut in four piece about at inch size. The fourth potato I planted in a bucket and it did well too, we harvested it early for young potatoes. Tomatoes, squash, okra and eggplant we had to pull and compost just to make room for fall veggies in the garden. It was the most difficult thing for me to kill a plant loaded with flowers and fruits but we could not accommodate more harvest in the freezers. KK- That is an heirloom from India and I saute it with onions and herbs or it can be cooked grated in condensed milk and sugar for desert. I had no idea about juice being toxic but usually it is not consumed raw. Donna- yes we did good with tomatoes this year, in fact good enough for at least next two year's supply Cherylad- we did good this year except for melons (5 kinds) and cucumbers (3 kinds) which we lost to cucumber beetles (bacterial wilt). However, we were able to harvest some of the melons but all varieties tasted bland and watery due to mild Summer and lots of rain we had this year.
What a fine harvest you have there, greenfingers...and that is true...green fingers indeed, not just a green thumb. Well done!
Thanks Carolyn, that is so kind of you to say that but the truth is I am still learning from my mistakes and from all the experienced gardeners here especially you and Mart, could not have achieved it without your guidance.
Waretrop is wondering what the "Wilson2" and "Penn2" tastes like. Bet they's be good sauted in garlic and mushrooms placed over egg noodles. YUM......
All I can say is 'Wow'! All of your vegetables look so good and your garden area is great, I love the raised beds and trellis. I like the way you braid your onions together also. We just tie the tops together adjusting the onions so they aren't touching and hang them in the basement. It sounds like you'll have plenty of produce stored to last until next year.
