Has anyone ever really won anything big online?

I'm just curious about this, that's why I'm asking - Have you ever really won anything substantial online? Or know anyone who has?

You see, I'm always getting promoted by the online shopping websites I visit. That please review what you just bought, (with pictures). In exchange there is a possibility of winning some big prize. Like I recently bought stevia plants from this website, (see attached screenshot below). So they are now asking me to review it, with a chance of getting a windfall of around 1,000 Rupees extra.

Of course I do review whatever I buy, with pictures, (provided that I have fee time to do so). And yes, I often do win small rewards - As a result of which the shipment cost of the next item I buy gets waved off, or is reduced substantially, (see attachment of screenshot below).

However this is just a token reward. Not the big prize. Which is how it always is - Which also doesn't really surprise me at all, (as these guys have a business to run). That's why I'm not bitter about it. Because I review items I've bought as I want the next buyer to be aware. It's like giving something back to the community. Because I myself often read reviews of other people before buying anything first.

But I'm now just curious to know, if the big prize ever really gets won by anyone at all? Or is it just a big juicy carrot they keep dangling in front of us - But never actually handed out to anyone in reality...

So it would now really be helpful to know from all you fine people over here. If you have ever won anything big online? Or do you know anyone who has??? Or is it only some enticement to turn everyone into a shopaholic?

Not really big but I did do a survey on woodburners recently (more because I wanted my say as the council are trying to ban them over here)"

    A week later I got a call saying I'd won £100

    Congrats Zigs! That's exciting.

About four years ago my friend won free groceries for a year at a Canadian grocery chain ($8000 value) by entering an online survey. That's the only person I know of.

Cor, that was well worth winning. The only thing I ever won was about 70 years ago. It was a boys book called Ajax the Warrior in a colouring competition, and years before online was even thought of :(

Congratulations! And yeah, if I was in your place, I too would rush to the garden shop to spend it all - Such is how we gardeners are!

That's very encouraging to learn about. Otherwise I was of the opinion that they are strictly using such promotions as an enticement only - And never actually giving it to anyone... But what you and Zigs have just shared above proves otherwise. Great! It gives me hope. :D

I think you and I are in the same boat. Never having won anything of substantial value... Of course I too regularly win online. But it's just little stuff, like having the shipment cost of my next order getting waved off. Beyond that, nothing big up till now. :headscratch:

Ta Shahbaz :) and yes, I had to :D

While I was there, I spoke to the Manageress, who later asked if she could bring students round to have a look at the cactus shop...

They came all week, morning and afternoon, we were exhausted  But then she asked about supplying cacti to the garden centre as they can't get them from Europe since the UK told them where to go, and the British growers don't have enough to supply.

So now we supply the local garden centre with cacti :)

All because of winning the £100 in the first place

Not online, but these are all plants I've won in the raffle over the past few years :)

The plants of course were all kindly donated by the members of our cactus society :)

Yes, it is obvious to see how one thing can lead to another. And so if the seed of an event was from something fortunate - Everything downstream too will be positive. Like catching a good wave while surfing. :D

Let's hope your winning streak spreads over here too. As some of us are long overdue for a windfall. :chuckle:
