Hubby and I were discussing our raspberry patch this afternoon :-? It is big, overgrown and has been neglected  We kinda thought about planting them in my stock tank  I would really rather plant iris in it but if it would help contain the raspberries it might be repurposed. We were unsure because I'm pretty sure the raspberries have a pretty extensive root system. I have no idea what kind of berries we have. I know they are not everbearing. They are just a yummy, dark red fruit that appears late summer. Any advice?

Sounds like a great idea to me. I got raspberries last year from friends (2 different ones, but don't know if berries are same or different) both have multiplied. One seems to be overly vigorous and I am perpetually pulling starts that are coming up in the path

Years ago I had raspberries and didn't have a problem with the running. They were ever bearing. I'm thinking maybe ever bearing is the way to go, or a trough like yours ;)

As long as it has good drainage, I think it would work fine. At least they won't send out runners into adjoining areas. I think I'd try to set the tank on blocks to make sure it drains well. Good luck, send pics.

I would definately grow them in a container. We've got wild raspberries growing on the other side of the stone fence and I keep a hard look-out for any startes trying to enter our side of the fence. :D

My next-door neighbour isn't very into gardening. She once asked me why I didn't make a raspberry patch. I told her it was because they spread out so much. She suggested I put up a fence to contain them. :D (Sorry, off-topic but I though it was a funny story.)
