Last week I had my DNA test I had done threw Ancestry come back. Most of my relatives came from France and Germany. So I just figured that is what would show up on my gene test.
I was shocked by the results; I am 60% Scandinavian, 24% eastern European, and 16% western European.
They said that my ancestors where Vikings. Wow so maybe I am related to some of the Stewers from that area.
My hubby said jokingly that now he know why I like Ollie and Sven jokes. :D

How interesting, I'm tempted to give this a try. Did they give you actual names of possible ancestry.com relatives through the DNA test result?

Hmm. We have family trees for various branches of our family back in to the early 1700s or earlier, and the folks mostly came from Germany [Saxony and Baden Baden], and Switzerland. Allegedly, there is some Irish in there, but those relatives spoke only High German and not a word of Gaelic ? We think there was something funky going on there, but don't know what.

My one great great grandfather raised horses for the Kaiser back in the middle 1800s. One grandfather was a bootlegger during prohibition. Those are in the Catholic branch of my family. Another branch was Old Order Amish/Mennonite all the way back to Menno Simms in Switzerland, with at least 6 generations of Mennonite/Amish ministers among my ancestors. That and other branches were Protestant all the way back to the early Reformation. They were farmers, teachers, a few lawyers, engineers, nurses, auto mechanics, etc. Other ethnic groups have married into or been adopted into my family, but they are not ancestors.

How much does one of those DNA tests cost BTW ?

Pianolady Yes but it is only matches to living relatives at this time. I have a lot of 4th cuz's that I did not know existed. I think my DNA matches will progress over time as more people have the test done.

AAnightowl I to have tavern owner, farmers, church leader, weavers, blacksmiths, barrel maker, mayor, school director, and Nicolas Hinzelin or Iselin born in 1595 who became the Mayor and founder of the village of Frederic Fountaine in France.
The DNA test costs 99.00 and with tax is about 108.00
I thought it was pretty reasonable. I think in order to order it from them you have to join ancestry. But I could be wrong. My hubby wants to have his checked. His family comes from Germany and Belgium. It will be interesting to see what his test shows. :stew1:
