It's been above freezing for 2 days now. I got up this morning and it was 34F and it got up to 42 F this afternoon. Everything is melting and I even have a couple of bare spots in the yard. I got a brush pile burnt today. Wanted to get it done while there was still snow on the ground so I wouldn't have to worry about it spreading. Sat. the snow should be gone from the roof and I can get up and get the chimney cleaned out. I usually do it about mid Jan. But I don't like getting up there when there is snow on the roof.
I think you're being very sensible not wanting to go up on the roof in the snow. We certainly don't want to hear of you slipping or falling and injuring yourself. I'm sure a few more weeks won't make too much difference to the chimney so stay safe.
Between 1° and 5°C is rather warmish, Capt. As a curiosity I can mention that Svalbard has rain and the plains can't take off or land due to icy runways. Furthermore, southern Norway has -10°C to -20°C/14 - -4°F. The wold's tilting on it's axis.
With all of the controversy over global warming, this past week I read an article where a UN climate specialist said that we are actually entering what he called a mini-ice age. He said colder than normal yemperatures in winter and could last 10 years or so.
And where are Manny, Sid and Diego when we might be needing them? Our temps will be back up around 70F/21C several days next week. Definitely garden working weather!!!
The snow melted off the roof and I got the chimney cleaned. I have my own brush system and it only takes about 15 minutes. Then about 30 min to clean all the soot out of the stove!
It sounds like you kind of enjoy the tasks you do on your house and property Capt. They do sound really satisfying... Now, pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the view of those pretty fields and that beautiful tree!
