I love my heathers and am lucky enough to have enough varieties that I have them blooming most months of the year. Sometimes I think they are the most beautiful with snow on the blossoms. Sometimes I think they are the most spectacular with the silvery foliage in the heat of summer.

Right now the white and pink gound cover varieties are blooming (although I am afraid my pink may want to turn into a tall bush)and the bumble bees and honey bees are enjoying them as much as I hope you will. Here are some pictures with the honey bees that came out today.

I love ground cover heathers Jewell - especially the white ones or the dark red variety. I'm hoping to get some later this year so that I'll have colour in the garden for each season.

Eileen, the red winter blooming heather is so striking with snow on the bloosoms. You'd love it.

Netty, I almost feel mean posting photos like these. I know how it feels. There have been years when we had a foot of snow in April. Weather has turned quite caprious. We are actually a full month early for the weather we are having and may break more records.

Oooo! I can almost imagine the sun and warmth and fragrance of Spring from looking at these pictures... The bees look WONDERFUL.... I just tromped in from the still snowy yard, but I'm not envious, or anything..... nope, not me. (grumble mumble, when is Spring coming, when????)

Very pretty, I have only grown the annual mexican heather. Yours looks so nice I may have to give it a try. How tall does it get?

Sorry Sjoerd, all my heathers were bought at local grocery stores where they are usually very cheap, but not labeled. If I buy them when they are blooming I have a very good chance of getting the right color :D and the right blooming time. I've oogled the great variety of heathers that are in one of the local nurseries. Didn't know about that nursery until the last couple of years and afraid my yard is pretty full now.

gfreiherr, I have had some of my first heathers get close to four feet tall (had to pull them because I planted them in front of a window). Heath and heathers range from ground huggers to shrubs with foliage colors from yellow to silver to deep green and everything in-between. They take well to some trimming with my hedger. There seems to be hundreds of species and varieties. We have a local nursery that carries a good variety of different types, maybe you do too.

CK they can't stay under the snow forever can they???

    Gorgeous Heather, Jewell.

I have wished for years that they would grow down here but have to content myself with the annual Mexican Heather....aka False Heather and isn't even vaguely related to the real heather

So beautiful. Can you PM me the name/phone number of that local nursery? I would love to get some started on my hillside behind the house. I'm not having much luck searching on google to order some. Not sure what I'm looking for I guess. Thanks Jewell.
