I knew it was going to cost a lot for repairs, BUT this was way out of line if you ask me. Did you know that your thermostat has batteries in in? I had no idea. They charged me $90.00 to change 3 AA batteries and they used my batteries. I hope these 3 last another 23 years.
Donna, That is terrible. I am supposing that most of that is service call.... Right????? You poor thing for getting into that predicament. I just had a guy come for my one valve was not working... He tried to tell me it was another thing and it would cost me $600. or more to fix. I guess he saw something on my face, for he left to order the parts and come back the next day, and well, he just never came back.... never.... What a jerk. We change the thing for a few dollars ourselves and it surely wasn't what he was trying to tell us was wrong. Never got a bill from this guy never saw him again and it's been 4 weeks. Guess if they can't make a good buck they don't want to give you the time of day.
Gosh what a price!! I also think he was a bit cheeky to use your batteries and then charge you $90 for the privilege. :-x
I had Sears do something similar a very long time ago. I was so disgusted I never used them again. I always call a local service tech. I heard the fridge making a funny noise so I called and I told him I wouldn't be here, but to come on in since I have used him for all my appliances since then....One of the kids should be here.My 20 YO fridge needed a new fan in the motor...did I want to spend 180.00 to fix it? WELL, DUH! YES. since the cost of a new one is waaaayyy out of my budget right now. I about fall over walking through the appliance dept of any store. Even the clearance ones are out of my budget.
Have to go look and see if our has batteries. But Dh was told needed rear main oil leak-$900.00 Found out it was oil pan gasket $150.00. That is where he bought new pickup. He makes sure he drives by other dealer ship.
I am always so thankful that DH knows how to fix everything around our house... it saves us so much money every year. The one exception recently was a repair to my vehicle, which we thought was covered under warranty. After it was fixed we discovered that it was NOT and the bill was almost $800 for a hose replacement. Made us angry as DH is a mechanic and could have fixed it himself MUCH cheaper.
