I knew it was going to cost a lot for repairs, BUT this was way out of line if you ask me. Did you know that your thermostat has batteries in in? I had no idea. They charged me $90.00 to change 3 AA batteries and they used my batteries. :scheming: I hope these 3 last another 23 years.

Donna, That is terrible. I am supposing that most of that is service call.... Right????? You poor thing for getting into that predicament.

I just had a guy come for my one valve was not working... He tried to tell me it was another thing and it would cost me $600. or more to fix. I guess he saw something on my face, for he left to order the parts and come back the next day, and well, he just never came back.... never.... What a jerk. We change the thing for a few dollars ourselves and it surely wasn't what he was trying to tell us was wrong.

Never got a bill from this guy never saw him again and it's been 4 weeks. Guess if they can't make a good buck they don't want to give you the time of day.

You'd think they would have suggested you check the batteries before they even came out. Sheesh.

Gosh what a price!! I also think he was a bit cheeky to use your batteries and then charge you $90 for the privilege. :-x

I had Sears do something similar a very long time ago. I was so disgusted I never used them again. I always call a local service tech. I heard the fridge making a funny noise so I called and I told him I wouldn't be here, but to come on in since I have used him for all my appliances since then....One of the kids should be here.My 20 YO fridge needed a new fan in the motor...did I want to spend 180.00 to fix it? WELL, DUH! YES. since the cost of a new one is waaaayyy out of my budget right now. I about fall over walking through the appliance dept of any store. Even the clearance ones are out of my budget.

I am always so thankful that DH knows how to fix everything around our house... it saves us so much money every year. The one exception recently was a repair to my vehicle, which we thought was covered under warranty. After it was fixed we discovered that it was NOT and the bill was almost $800 for a hose replacement. Made us angry as DH is a mechanic and could have fixed it himself MUCH cheaper.
