Ooh! I just found this community while searching for info about a hawk I saw in my yard. But I'm very excited to see so many other gardeners that I can "chat" with. I don't have nearly as much time as I would like to putter in my yard as I am a SAHM with 3 little ones under 5. But any free minutes I can scrounge, I'm out in the dirt or wandering the aisles of the local greenhouses with a 2 year old in the cart, a 6 month old in the Bjorn, and a 4 year old walking along. (Fortunately, they are very patient children and actually see this as a desirable outing.) We bought this house in suburban WI 4 years ago and the previous owners hadn't cared for their landscaped yard for 10 years. Everything was overgrown and out of control. I've been doing one little area at a time ever since. My favorite perennials that I planted are globe centaurea and lots of Asiatic lilies, including stargazers. I fill in all of the empty spaces with lots of zinnias, gerbera daisies, and sweet alyssum, among other things. This year, I'm concentrating on attracting and keeping my hummingbirds happy with fuschia pots, million bells, salvia, monarda, and other fun stuff. I can't wait to start posting pics of all of the beautiful flowers as they bloom. I look forward to meeting lots of other dirty-handed folks on here.
Hi and welcome to the Stew from north Texas. Since your little ones enjoy excursions thru the plants maybe they are little gardeners in the making. Sounds like you have made some nice progress on the yard makeover. Any pictures you want to share would be greatly appreciated, we love pictures.
Welcome to the Stew from mid-Norway, nice to meet you! It sounds as though you've got your hands full, looking forward to following your progress in the garden.
Welcome to the stew from So. ME. My 4 year old's only interest in flowers is picking them...even when I don't want her to. But, that's another story...Good to have you here, there's lots of great people and we do love pics. Enjoy!
