Hello! This is Courtney. I actually joined last June to identify a mystery plant (which turned out to be burdock in it's early stages), but then I kinda dissapeared. I wanted to start over and let you all know how things have gone sinse I so cold-heartedly abandoned all ya'll. The garden thing didn't go so well last year. We were expecting to move, so I didn't put a lot of money or effort into it. This year, I started a bit and tried to focus on things that could be transferred, sinse we still wanted to move. But then I saw the price of bark chips and got a cheap idea. I dug up and fixed some badly layed stepping stones in our front yard and surrounded them with bark chips. While I was working on that, one of the guys in my boyfriend's band stole my shovel and did most of the job for me. He told me it was nothing, cuz he builds fences for a living. I mentioned that we have a problem with vagrants in our backyard, and that I wish our landlord would pay for a new fence. He offered to do the job for free with extra materials. So... YAY! My confidence lifted and so much closer to a safe feeling, my passion for starting my first outdoor garden.. revived. I'm starting so late this year, I don't get to seed anything. So it got a bit spendy fast. So far, I've redone the walkway, started gooseberry and black currant bushes, and bought three topsy turvy growers (how fun!) to plant eggplants, tomatoes, and jalepenos in. Today I purchased pansies, celosia, petunia, lobelia, 3 types of columbine (awww love!), and delphinium. Everything is in the color family of blue or yellow. I may have to plant the celosia seperately. Tomorrow's task is to build a raised planter out of spare peices of wood. I've got lots of wood to work with. It will wrap around a stump that the remaining fenceline is attached to. There's a viny plant (which I need to identify) on the fence, so part of the area will be well shaded, and part of it will be in full sun. Very versatile. Pictures will follow! I've also got some more indoor plants. I started out with an aloe plant two years ago. It's doing very well. Last week I added an old english ivy, a false aralia, and sanseveria. I also planted some spinach seedlings in my kitchen windowsill. I'm back in full force!
Hi Courtney,Welcome back . I was in Billing for almost 2 months recently. From March 11th to May 7 th.I was at my daughters.Do you know where Alderson Ave. is?Its still a little cool isn't it?Like in the 40s and 60s but some days are warmer. My daughter wants to grow veggies too but hasn't a clue where to start even after I told her how.She goes to school too plus 2 little boys keeps her so fairly busy.Good luck with all your plants
Eh, it's actually getting a lot warmer! It's cool temps like that out in Red Lodge now. One day it was 92 degrees! I used to live near Alderson. I miss that neighborhood, with all the historic homes and the trees that stretched over the road. *sigh* I hope your visit with your daughter was fun! She should really try veggie growing. I'm liking these topsy turvy growers that I got at Target so far. The seedlings are adapting well and quickly to being upsidedown.
I love her neighborhood. While I was there I went to the Moss Mansion and the Western Heritage Center.I've been to Billings lots but first time to go to them.I love Red Lodge and going over Beartooth Mts into Yellow Stone and to Cody Wyoming.Camped in West Yellow Stone a couple of years ago.
Aw I love Beartooth Pass! Next time you come out this way, get a hold of me. I have a couple books that provide maps and information for hiking trails in the beartooth wilderness, from easy to very difficult. Moss Mansion is gorgeous, isn't it? I love the room with the art nouvou on the walls.
Welcome back, egoreise. Sounds like you're off on a good start this year. I hope this will be a nice gardening year for you.
