Apparently we are on spring break from spring! After a week of warm temperatures we're suffering a (hopefully) brief relapse. My name is Teresa and although I have done some semi-successful gardening in the past, it has been many years. My life has undergone some dramatic changes in the last few years but to make a very long story extremely short, I live in Cincinnati with my four daughters (8 - 15) and my boyfriend Brian. We rent our home but are fortunate enough to have a wonderful landlord who has given us the freedom to do anything we like with the house and the yard. We just moved in last fall and apparently the people who lived here some years ago were a little "eccentric" and basically the house was an accessory to the overgrown wildflower garden that covered every square inch of the yard. (In fact, in the county auditors website photo, you cannot even see the house !) Gene (our landlord) mowed it all under when he bought the property, nothing else really, and so now we have stuff popping up all over the place. We want the yard to look nice and while Brian is in charge of all the hard labor, I have been assigned the task of research and design. I'm going to need ALOT of help and support. My goals are to identify the things already in the yard, save what's worth saving, move what needs moving, and kill what needs killing. I'd like to design and plant a few small beds in the front of the yard, maintain a decent lawn, maximize the street view of the house, and have a small vegetable garden in the back. I'm going to have many questions and I'm open to any and all advice. That's it in a very large nutshell. Thanks for reading, if you still are. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Hi Teresa, welcome to the Stew from north Texas. I wouldn't mind a yard filled with wildflowers. Maybe you could fence off part of the yard and have a wildflower garden, then transform the rest into some other type of garden.
