    Hello All,
I am a bad :'( gardener this spring. I did not prune my hydrangea yet and of course it now has humungous new growth. Can I prune it now to a resonable size or will I lose any possible flowers for this summer??
Being a full-time nursing student my poor yard and garden have been neglected.
    Thanks,
    Mary Beth

Welcome Mary Beth! I'm no expert on hydrangea's, I've just posted my own request on trees and shrubs. But...I just wanted to welcome you to the stew. You'll get some answers because all the great people on this site are very knowledgable and love to share it. So enjoy!

    Hi Mary Beth.
A warm welcome to you from sunny South Africa.
DO not feel bad at all - I had worse days when I was in formal employment and while studying even worse.
THe Stew will definitely help ease the burden.

Hi Mary Beth- it's too late to prune it this year, without sacrificing blooms, but it should submit nicely to it come June or July- much later than that and you will lose blooms for next year. If you still have lots of blooms on it come June, look at it as a way to fill your vases with lovely color!

Hello Mary Beth - I'm over on the westside, so I'm not quite as cold as you guys probably get in the Gorge, but glad to have another Pacific NW Stewbie. :-D Looks like you already got your answer, but I hope we'll see more of you with time.
