Hi all, This is my first post over here. And from looking at the member map, I seem to be the only one here from Karachi. However, if I look at it in another way, then being the first one from my area - Is a perk that I seem to have gotten here as a windfall! :-D Anyhow as far as I can remember, I had always been fascinated by horticulture. So by just being here, I already feel at home! Anyway I will not bore you people any further by rambling about myself - Instead I'll simply give everyone here a treat! By showing a video which I myself had made about the plants in my part of the world. Yes, aside from horticulture, video making is another hobby of mine! Best quality of the video is at StageVU, but it requires fast Internet connection. http://stagevu.com/video/xwhivzthlxtm
Hi S-H, welcome to GardenStew from north Texas. Very glad you did find us and will stay with us a long time. That was a wonderful video, so many gorgeous blooms and that show is huge. It would have taken me a week to wander thru that, I would have made at least a dozen trips just to make sure I saw everything. Many of those plants I have in my garden too and love them. I am looking forward to seeing more photos of your local gardens and learning about your experiences.
Well, that show is held at our beach for about 4 days every year in either late February or early March (as that's when Spring time starts here in Karachi). It is organized by the Horticultural Society of Pakistan: http://www.hsp48.org/home.html Our climate over here is mostly hot for almost the entire year. Which is why cactus does very well. But aside from that a lot of other fruit and vegetables too are cultivated over here. I myself am here because I'm really interested in trading seeds. However I am not exactly sure how to go about it when it comes to exchanging seeds internationally... I do know that plants can't be traded (as they'll be put in quarantine). So I hope that isn't the case with seeds as well. From my end, sending and receiving small packets of seeds through snail mail (as long as it is registered) will not be a problem. But I am not sure what other countries do with seeds coming into their territory through regular mail... Has anyone over here traded seeds internationally?
Welcome to the Stew, S-H, from the chilly coast of mid-Norway. I love seeing photos and videos from warmer places, even though I turn green from envy. I've tried to send seeds to people in other countries. Sometimes they get through, sometimes they don't. Getting seeds into Norway is a risk sport, since our Customs officers take their job very seriously. Anyways, I guess my plants won't grow where you live and vice versa. But that won't stop us from having fun online, now, would it?
It's so nice to have someone from Karachi here on our forums S-H. :-D Welcome to GardenStew from a very wet and windy Scotland. Your video is superb and I will be looking at it again and again.
Thank you all for a very warm welcome, and thanks also for liking my video! I will now try to post a few pictures of my plants. These days I am mostly growing chilies.
Hello there and Welcome, I have sent seeds to various countries, and so far so good. What seeds are you looking to trade?
Well after the winter, I was thinking of planting dwarf sunflowers in clay pots (so they can be placed in the windows of an office at the 9th floor). I am imagining a 10 to 12 inch diameter flower with bright yellow petals and a very dark center, on a 1.5 to 2 feet stalk, with lush green leaves! http://www.parkseed.com/gardening/PD/0989/ Unfortunately, the link above only sells to buyers in US or Canada... So if anyone has seeds for something like that, then I'd be interested - What I've got to offer in exchange are chili seeds. I have even posted pictures of my chili plants in the gallery section. Here is the link to see my chilies! http://www.gardenstew.com/about20522.html
